Vlieland is an island in the North Sea. The way to get there is to take a 1.5 hour ferry ride from Harlingen. The most amazing thing about Vlieland is that there are no cars (except for those that are owned by the people who live there permanently)!! It's a wonderful place to bike and walk through the forests and the dunes. There are two fire towers that you can climb. Lots of people rent a dune house for the weekend. I thought this place was one of the most special places we went to in the Netherlands, because it was so fun to walk on the beach and to bicycle. But the headwinds can be really strong!!
